Mountain Biking Options Near Crested Butte, Colorado
The town of Crested Butte and the Resort itself contain some of the best access to epic mountain biking in the Country. In fact, many believe mountain biking originated in Crested Butte, Colorado. Because this quaint town was created from mining operations, many of the efforts to build trails and roads for mining have fittingly been converted to world class mountain biking trails.

Deadman Trail Crested Butte, Colorado
Directions:

From Colorado Highway 135, take the Cement Creek Road (FS 740) east to the Deadman Gulch Trailhead, about seven miles . Cement Creek Road is about seven miles south of Crested Butte.
Length: 20 Miles
Time: 3-4 Hours
Description: A moderate trail, the Dead Man Trail contains no extreme challenges. The loop features an ride uphill, feeding into miles of single-track, and finishes with a fast, somewhat steep downhill.


The 401 Mountain Bike Trail Crested Butte, Colorado
Directions:
From Crested Butte, drive north past Mt. Crested Butte on Gothic Road. Continue 7.5 miles then park at the parking lot for Judd Falls.

Time: 3 Hours
Description: This is a Colorado favorite! Start the steady and seemingly long climb up on Gothic Rd for 4.5 miles towards Schofield Pass. Take a right on trail 401 and climb a little bit to the top. Soak in spectacular views at the summit. To the east you can see the majestic Maroon Bells. Start the narrow singletrack downhill through fields of wildflowers and aspen groves. There are two more steady climbs after the long downhill back to your car, take your time and enjoy the views!


Doctor Park Mountain Bike Trail
Directions:
From Gunnison, take highway 135 north to Almont, take a right on the Taylor River road (Forest Road 742), continue past the Spring Creek Road for about a half mile and turn left into the North Bank Campground. Go thru the campground to the end of the road to find the trailhead. From Crested Butte, go south on highway 135 and take Jacks Cabin Cutoff, which will put you on the Taylor River Road just west of Spring Creek Road.
Length: 19 miles
Description: The Doctor Park Trail offers exciting downhill on a section of the Colorado trail. Enjoy this trail as a loop or if you don't want to bike the 8 miles of road shuttle it with another car.


Teocalli Ridge Mountain Bike Trail
Directions: Drive on Brush Creek Road (738) east from Colorado Highway 135. At 4 miles the road will climb out of the valley floor. Look for the intersection with West Brush Creek Road (738.2A). Park at the junction. Sometimes locals simply ride from town.
Length: 11 miles
Time: 2-3 Hours
Description: This is a fantastic fide for adventure mountain biking and scenic views. This isn't necessarily the best singletrack, but the views make up for it. It combines a double track ride up the valley with a lung bursting ascent at the top and then a steep and sometimes treacherous descent down the ridge back to the starting point. The trail is well marked and easy to follow.
